Elizabeth BaumanNewsletter September 2010, Volume 11
I have two upcoming shows next month with the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery. The first, which I mentioned in the last newsletter, will be in their Gallery 2 (a solo show) and the reception for that event will be on October 14 from 5-7pm. Please go here for more information.
The other show, which I talked about in my blog, will be a group show called "Face the public" in their main gallery in downtown Salem, Oregon. Twelve artists were invited to help paint a famous painting, each artist gets a section to paint as they want. This is an annual show they do and this year's painting is Frida Kahlo's "Self-portrait dedicated to Dr. Eloesser". Each of the artists will also hang a piece of their own art in the gallery for this event. The reception for the show is October 6th from 5-7pm and my date for painting will be October 12th (morning to early afternoon I should be down there). It's a fun show, I think the sixth year they have done this, and I always love watching the painting evolve through the month.
I'm afraid I only have one new painting to share this month. I have been busy with preparations for the show as well as some commissions, so this is it.
'Self-portrait: How I painted', Oil on 18 x 18 inch canvas.
Inspired, no doubt, by all my reading about Frida Kahlo lately but also a return to an idea of painting I had back in last December/January that I sidetracked from for awhile. I really enjoyed working on this piece and there are more coming with this same idea of painting.
