Upcoming show 10/01/2011
I have news of an upcoming show at Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem, Oregon. Last year I participated in Face the Public in which 12 artists painted one section each of a Frida Kahlo painting and this year I get to do it again. This time we are painting Diego Rivera's painting "The Flower Carrier". You can read more about the show here. If you are in the area, stop in for the reception on October 5th from 5-7pm, or on the afternoon of October 13th when I'll be painting my section, or towards the end of the month to see the completed painting. It is a fun project and the proceeds of the sale of these paintings go to help artists in need. Also at the show, each of the participating artists will have some of their own work up and my two newest paintings will be there. This is a new series and I'm trying to find an appropriate title for the series but that will come later: I will probably duplicate some of this post at my other blog so please excuse the redundancy if you follow both. Add Comment A few images from con.temporary 07/09/2011
The con.temporary exhibit has been great fun. All the pieces came together beautifully and First Wednesday the gallery was packed. I forgot to take my camera, so here are a few images I caught yesterday instead. The gallery will be up until about 5pm tomorrow, Sunday the 10th. Stop in if you can. I need to get back for more photos as some did not turn out well. There is a covered area with a bunch more pieces, including my own, but the lighting isn't good and they came out a bit blurry (you can slightly see them in the second photo from the top). Upcoming Show 07/02/2011
I'm pleased to share I will be part of a very short, group show this coming week. Here is a little bit about it: July 5-10 > Con•temporary > Reed Opera House Room 107 Con•temporary is a collaborative, week-long art installation exploring art mediums, showing new work, and encouraging conversations among artists and our community. Featured artists include Eric Tautkus, Elizabeth Bauman, Cynthia Herron, Barry Shapiro, KC Hancock, Lori McLaughlin, Ann Kresge, and others. Past Project Space participants were invited to collaborate for one week working with the ideas of permanent/temporary in a space that includes exhibited work and other community based components. Two temporary installations will be on view, one of which will utilize empty spray paint cans and duct tape in a collaboration between Eric Tautkus and Jonathan Bucci. Another will be a group-created accordion book displayed throughout the space by participating artists. This project gives participating artists a chance to collaborate and converse. This exhibit also includes a hands-on project with recycled materials, First Wednesday poetry readings with Third Thursday Poets, a site-specific dance performance, and a great potluck! The Reed Opera House is located at 189 Liberty Street Northeast Salem, OR 97301. July 5-July 10 2011 (approximately 10am-5pm most days and the evening of First Wednesday) Hours might fluctuate as people are available to staff the space. Feel free to e-mail me if you are curious about a particular time. These two new paintings will be hanging in the show: New work and show 05/12/2011
Wow, it has been awhile since I last posted here. I've been keeping up with my studio blog and did not realize just how long this one had gone without an update. Here are a couple new portraits available in my shop (if you click on the image, it will take you to that painting's page for more information): And these three paintings have journeyed up to a group show in Seattle: They are part of a show at the Flying Apron Bakery along with five other artists through the end of June. Find out more about the show here. Hope you can stop in if you are in the area, plus the bakery sounds really yummy. Parks for People Show 03/12/2011
Last night was the reception for the Parks for People show at Salem Art Association in Salem, Oregon along with a few other wonderful exhibits. I managed to take a few photos in the Parks for People exhibit despite the large crowd. So please excuse the often crooked and oddly cropped photos, but I wanted to share the great pieces in this show. Above on the right is my own painting. On the left is a really interesting piece by Jennifer Gimzewski. A favorite artist and friend Bonnie Hull in front of her piece. After having me pose in front of my own painting for her, I had to have her do the same. And lo! I discovered a painting in the exhibit by another favorite artist of mine, Amanda Blake. A lovely surprise. Here is Amanda's painting again next to one by Ann Altman. These two paintings by Nancy Eng. Both Ross Sutherland (on the left) and Catherine Alexander (on the right) created pieces based on what I would call an iconic photograph of Edith Schryver and Elizabeth Lord (I couldn't find websites for them). And finally this wonderful painting by John Van Dreal who also gave a very inspiring lecture prior to the reception discussing his work and processes. Fascinating. If you are in the area, I recommend you see this show plus the others at the Salem Art Association. The show will be up until the end of April. Upcoming Show 03/07/2011
Show Date: March 11th - April 30th Location: Salem Art Association at Bush Barn Art Center 600 Mission St SE, Salem, Oregon Opening reception: Friday, March 11th, 6:30 to 7:30pm (Artist Lecture by John Van Dreal, one of the featured artists, will be from 5:30-6:30pm.) Celebrating Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver, this exhibit is an invitational show in which artists were given a photograph of either one or both of these important, early landscape architects (their work began in 1929) or a couple other women involved in the work. Each artist was asked to interpret the photograph in whatever way they wanted. I'm so excited to be a part of this show. Above is my submission which is based on a 1953 photograph of Edith Schryver. If you click on the photograph of the painting it will take you to the main page for it and you can click on it there to see a larger version. Here are a few detail shots: I have seen a few other pieces for the show and they are amazing. I hope if you live in the area you will be able to stop in. The show will be open starting this Friday for 2 months so there is plenty of time. Face the Public 10/05/2010
Tomorrow night is the reception for the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery's Face the Public show. This show will feature a painting that 12 artists will each work on a section of throughout October. The painting chosen is the Frida Kahlo piece above. Additionally, each of the artists will have a piece representing their own work hanging. I'm so excited to be a part of this. My section to paint includes most of her ear (I'll share more about my practicing for this piece in a few days). The show goes for the month of October, you can check out the schedule for the artists here. Here is the painting I chose to hang at the gallery: The gallery is located at 335 State Street in downtown Salem, Oregon. The reception is October 5 from 5-7pm. Hope to see you there! Show all set up 10/01/2010
Last Wednesday, I brought my latest series of paintings over to the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery, Gallery 2, to set up for my show. It was a lot of fun to see them up and all together. The space is fantastic! And I really enjoyed the time I spent with Mary Lou, as always. It was fun! Go to my FLICKR to see more of the photos from the show. The gallery is an appointment only gallery, but the reception is on October 14th from 5-7pm at 1730 Fairmount Ave S Salem, Oregon. If you are interested in seeing the show but can't come to the reception, you can reach the gallery here. Some news and... a new painting! 09/04/2010
Happy Saturday! This is the last of the very large pieces in this series and the last that I started at Project Space earlier in the summer. In case you haven't noticed it before, by clicking on the photos of paintings in my blog post you will be brought to that painting's page. Each of the paintings has a page with more information and you can see a larger image of the painting as well. I have some exciting news to share. Two things, actually. First, I have a date set for the reception of my upcoming show with Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in their Gallery 2. It will be October 14 from 5-7pm. You can find out more details here. Gallery 2 is an appointment only space, so if you are interested in seeing the show but can't make it to the reception you would need to contact them for an appointment. The second bit of news is that Mary Lou Zeek invited me to participate in the upcoming show at her main gallery space (downtown Salem, Oregon). In October, they will have their annual show called "Face the Public". They select a number of artists (this year 12) and one painting by a well known artist then divide it up into sections and each artist paints, draws, or whatever, in their designated section on different days. Last year it was a Matisse painting. This year it is Frida Kahlo's "Self-portrait dedicated to Dr. Eloesser" and I have been invited to participate! I am so excited. I will be at the gallery painting my section on October 12th. Each of the artists will also have a piece hanging in the gallery so I am thrilled about that as well. The other artists participating are fantastic and I'm so happy to be a part of this project. You can read more about the show here. I have a busy weekend ahead of painting. Hope your weekend is good! | Please Note:I am not currently using this blog. Please visit my other blog for new posts. CategoriesAll ArchivesNovember 2011 |
