Upcoming show 10/01/2011
I have news of an upcoming show at Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem, Oregon. Last year I participated in Face the Public in which 12 artists painted one section each of a Frida Kahlo painting and this year I get to do it again. This time we are painting Diego Rivera's painting "The Flower Carrier". You can read more about the show here. If you are in the area, stop in for the reception on October 5th from 5-7pm, or on the afternoon of October 13th when I'll be painting my section, or towards the end of the month to see the completed painting. It is a fun project and the proceeds of the sale of these paintings go to help artists in need. Also at the show, each of the participating artists will have some of their own work up and my two newest paintings will be there. This is a new series and I'm trying to find an appropriate title for the series but that will come later: I will probably duplicate some of this post at my other blog so please excuse the redundancy if you follow both. Just added to my shop these four paintings. Two you might remember and two are new little portraits. All located here. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. Little Portraits in Norwich 08/10/2011
I meant to do a post about this ages ago and I forgot. I have a really bad memory. Anyway, I sent these three paintings to Norwich to The Cold Press/The Cold Shop. Wishing I could have taken them in person! Their shop and studio look excellent. I've posted two of these paintings before but Wendy on the left is new to my site. Click on her for more information. New paintings at Sebastian Foster 08/05/2011
I recently sent these four new paintings to Sebastian Foster. Click on each painting for more information or if interesting in purchasing visit Sebastian Foster (if you don't see them on the website, contact directly as Sebastian Foster now has a gallery in addition to the wonderful online selection). Sort of a return to vintage photographs on this set and some new ones to come (I'll share those later). I'm back in the mood for collecting photographs and have been haunting the local antique shop adding to my collection. Now I just have to figure out a better storage system because my accordion file is bursting. A good problem to have. New in my shop: Sketch paintings 07/28/2011
Now in my shop, these six sketch paintings: These sketches are explorations of color (or lack of) and ideas and having fun with the paint. Mostly watercolor and gouache but also a little pencil and acrylic. I hope you'll take a look. Upcoming Show 07/02/2011
I'm pleased to share I will be part of a very short, group show this coming week. Here is a little bit about it: July 5-10 > Con•temporary > Reed Opera House Room 107 Con•temporary is a collaborative, week-long art installation exploring art mediums, showing new work, and encouraging conversations among artists and our community. Featured artists include Eric Tautkus, Elizabeth Bauman, Cynthia Herron, Barry Shapiro, KC Hancock, Lori McLaughlin, Ann Kresge, and others. Past Project Space participants were invited to collaborate for one week working with the ideas of permanent/temporary in a space that includes exhibited work and other community based components. Two temporary installations will be on view, one of which will utilize empty spray paint cans and duct tape in a collaboration between Eric Tautkus and Jonathan Bucci. Another will be a group-created accordion book displayed throughout the space by participating artists. This project gives participating artists a chance to collaborate and converse. This exhibit also includes a hands-on project with recycled materials, First Wednesday poetry readings with Third Thursday Poets, a site-specific dance performance, and a great potluck! The Reed Opera House is located at 189 Liberty Street Northeast Salem, OR 97301. July 5-July 10 2011 (approximately 10am-5pm most days and the evening of First Wednesday) Hours might fluctuate as people are available to staff the space. Feel free to e-mail me if you are curious about a particular time. These two new paintings will be hanging in the show: Couple more new little portraits to share 06/16/2011
Both of these little paintings are now available in my Etsy shop for $130 each. I just finished a small group of slightly larger portraits and will those be drying for a couple of weeks (I'll share those in my next newsletter). Next, I have to work on a small project for an upcoming group show of sorts with the idea of temporary and permanence. A challenging project, to say the least! Two new little portraits 06/14/2011
These two new little portraits are now in my Etsy shop. I hope you stop in when you have a moment. I hope to be back soon with a couple more to add as well. Just need to varnish and photograph and they will be ready to go. A little note on the gentleman's name in "Most handsome". A friend of mine used that nickname for her son when he was a baby (and she probably still does) and the moment I saw this mustached man developing that name just stuck for me. Upcoming Show 03/07/2011
Show Date: March 11th - April 30th Location: Salem Art Association at Bush Barn Art Center 600 Mission St SE, Salem, Oregon Opening reception: Friday, March 11th, 6:30 to 7:30pm (Artist Lecture by John Van Dreal, one of the featured artists, will be from 5:30-6:30pm.) Celebrating Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver, this exhibit is an invitational show in which artists were given a photograph of either one or both of these important, early landscape architects (their work began in 1929) or a couple other women involved in the work. Each artist was asked to interpret the photograph in whatever way they wanted. I'm so excited to be a part of this show. Above is my submission which is based on a 1953 photograph of Edith Schryver. If you click on the photograph of the painting it will take you to the main page for it and you can click on it there to see a larger version. Here are a few detail shots: I have seen a few other pieces for the show and they are amazing. I hope if you live in the area you will be able to stop in. The show will be open starting this Friday for 2 months so there is plenty of time. New little portraits 03/02/2011
A few new little portraits are now in my Etsy shop. Several more still to come over the next few weeks and probably long after (though perhaps not quite at this rate, phew!). From left to right (all are oil and acrylic on wood panel): "Hermione" 5x7 inches, "Marya" 3x5 inches, and "Oh" 6x6 inches. Today I am off to buy some art supplies and then I will have some precious time to sit with some tea, sketch, and read. Have a great day! | Please Note:I am not currently using this blog.
